Louisiana Snow Day 2025
Today, I saw snow for the second time in my life. However, unlike the first time it snowed back in 2017, it is REALLY snowing. Like all day. I feel like I’m witnessing a blizzard or something. Or maybe I’m just a dramatic Southerner who isn’t used to seeing snow ever. I’ve walked outside three different times now and it’s wild to me how high the snow has piled over the past few hours.
The first time I walked outside, I was a little unprepared I suppose. I’m not actually sure what you would consider snow gear to be, given it barely gets below 40 degrees down here, so there’s no reason to own a big coat. Chances are I’ll only have two days of the year I would wear it. But of course, today was one of those two days. I walked out in fleece leggings, at least, with my mom’s pajama pants and a sweatshirt with a puffer jacket and tennis shoes. Apparently, that wasn’t enough. Number one lesson learned: wear gloves. I wanted to take photographs and assumed I wouldn’t be able to with gloves. This was a dumb assumption; you can, in fact, work a camera with gloves on. Learning from my mistakes as I go. Anyway, I bring this up because the second I got into the heated house and set down my things, I almost passed out. Oops!
I’m just going to assume the quick temperature change made me light-headed. I guess. I’m also allergic to the cold (yes, that’s a real thing), but I don’t see how that would make me faint. Who knows. I just wanted to take pictures and I did so mission accomplished I guess!
Despite this scare, the snow kept coming and I was determined to capture the progression of it piling up. Of course, the second time around, I learned from my mistakes, and my dad made me wear his bulky camouflage gear (not really sure what you call it) and a goofy little ski mask. I looked crazy, but safety comes first, as I learned the hard way. We made the trek back out again and again as the snow kept piling up, and it was quite interesting to see how quickly it progressed.
