Karma and the Killjoys at Manship Theatre
Last month, I had the exciting opportunity to take pictures of local Baton Rouge band Karma and the Killjoys at Manship Theatre for the release show of their new EP ‘Synthetic.’ This was an exciting experience for me as it was my first time shooting a live music show after working all summer to get my start at music photography, so I’m super grateful to my boss Jordan Hefler for connecting me with Manship Theatre!
Coincidentally, I met a few of the members of the band a few weeks before the show when I was taking headshots for Baton Rouge Music Studios as a project for my other internship. Karma and the Killjoys are a pretty well-known local band, so I had heard of them before in passing but had never listened to their music, and I had no clue I was taking headshots for some of the members until BR Music Studios reached out to me asking for the pictures so they could promote this very release show! The timing was all very funny since I ended up getting the pass to come to take pictures of the release show a few days later, moral of the story, many coincidences were going on throughout.
It was a wonderful show and I loved photographing it, there were a lot of cool lightning effects going on along with the aesthetic of the band (I don’t know if this is an annoying art major thing for me to note but the lead singers’ contrasting black and white outfits/hair was so visually interesting to see and I loved it)! I ended up listening to the new EP non-stop in the following months, and I’ve added a link below so you can listen as well while checking out the pictures I got from the performance!
